Issues: Judicial Branch

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Courts Subcommittee, released the following statement on the Judiciary Committee's vote to advance Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson today:

"Today, I voted to advance a highly qualified and accomplished nominee to the Court. Judge Jackson possesses a keen legal mind, the ideal judicial temperament, and more courtroom experience than any of the sitting justices at their confirmations. She arrived at her nomination through merit and ability, not via a dark-money turnstile controlled by right-wing donors seeking special influence. And she carries with her a story of perseverance and hope stretching beyond her own life and work into the experience of Black women in this country -- a story that illuminates a brighter American future. I regret the ordeal that certain Republicans chose to put her through during this process, but I am gratified to help advance a nominee who will serve the American people well in her time on the Court."
